Back Country Roads is a 6 piece band based out of the northern Illinois area. BCR started as a 3 piece acoustic band in April of 2009 and quickly expanded to the 6 piece we are today. We have played at events such as Country Thunder (the last 5 years) and have been direct support for National acts such as Phil Vassar, Darryl Worley, David Lee Murphy, Neal McCoy, Love & Theft, Steel Magnolia, Keith Anderson, Easton Corbin and Granger Smith. Back Country Roads plays mostly current Top 40 Country hits, with a few older selections and some originals thrown in the mix as well. We also occasionally leave the Country genre a little bit which gives the audience some variety. Our Facebook fan-base is over 9,400 fans and continues to grow. We are looking forward to expanding into new areas for another jam-packed fun filled year full of shows!
BCR tours regularly throughout the American Midwest and performs at festivals, fairs, clubs and private parties.

Cortney AlberFemale Lead Vocals
Musical Influences: LeAnn Rimes, Martina McBride, Jennifer Nettles, Tanya Tucker, Christina Aguilera, Sara Evans, Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts
Music Background: Cortney remembers watching LeAnn Rimes performing a live concert on the Disney Channel when she was 8-years-old and knowing that's what she, too, was meant to do. Cortney went on to buy LeAnn's album and teach herself how to sing. After that, she performed in many talent competitions, weddings, funerals, parties, National Anthems, etc.
Cortney met Dave (bass player) at his local music shop in 2012, and was eventually asked to join the band when they were looking for a female vocalist later that year. She brings a traditional country vocal to the mix, with a hint of blues to add a unique sound. She plans to continue to write original music, gig as much as possible, and reach as many new audiences as they can. Her ultimate goal is to be signed with a major label and play arenas on a national tour.
Kyle MillerMale LeadVocals
Kyle has loved music since he was a young boy. Working on his grandparent’s farm every summer he didn’t have much choice but to listen to and love country music. He grew up listening to the sounds of The Eagles, Alabama, Steve Miller Band, and ZZ Top, which has molded his love for great vocals and harmonies. Kyle was always singing around the house and in church and eventually joined his high school choir. This escalated his love for singing and performing in front of crowds. In 2009 Kyle had the idea of creating a country band to perform locally as a hobby. With the help of some friends the band Back Country Roads was born. Things really started coming alive for the band and what started out as a hobby for Kyle quickly turned into a dream. Since 2009 Kyle has been singing with Back Country Roads who has had the privilege of sharing the stage with Keith Urban, Phil Vassar, Steal Magnolia, Neal McCoy, Tracy Lawrence, Love and Theft, Parmalee, and Easton Corbin. Throughout the years Kyle began strumming the guitar as well. These days don’t be surprised to see Kyle pick up the guitar during the show and start playing along to a song or two.

Through out middle school and high school he played in various rock bands, and also played in the jazz band, jazz combo, and pit bands at school. After high school he attended the Chicago College of Performing Arts where he studied jazz guitar performance. He started performing in various jazz and rock groups in Chicago during his college years. Since college he's been fortunate enough to play many genres such as rock, pop, blues, jazz and country in both live and studio situations. Also, he has been able to work as a sideman for production shows and musicals, as well as many different entertainers. Austin has been with Back Country Roads for the past year and a half, and considers himself very lucky to have the opportunity to perform with such talented musicians that also happen to be great people!
Dave MillerBass guitar, Vocals
Dave taught himself to play bass guitar at the age of 12 and started playing with bands when he was 14. He’s played in several bands over the years and has played many different genres of music from Rock, Blues, Christian, and variety (wedding band) but being in Back Country Roads has given him his first opportunity to play Country music. He enjoys performing with Back Country Roads because of the great personalities in the band and the great fans and friends that they’ve met on their journey over the last few years. He’s looking forward to what the future has in store now that BCR has begun to write original music and hopes you’ll join BCR for the ride !
Jon WatsonDrums, Percussion
Jon Watson has been playing drums on and off for 30 years or so, except for that 5 year break when he focused on the old time banjo. In his spare time he makes lots of saw dust and artfully helps raise his two teenage kids. He has been a private instructor to probably over 100 students in the last couple of decades and enjoys talking about the craft of drumming with others who play.
He played for 10 years with Creole Stomp, a Cajun/Zydeco band that tours around the US. He also plays with local jazz groups, musicals, holiday shows and has subbed for the Rockford IL summer band and other Freeport area bands. He has on occasion backed several national artists from Louisiana as well. He has played drums and banjo on several cds released by Swallow Records.
If you need to know even more about him, just start talking to him at a gig - He’ll be the guy at the bar with the ratty hat.
